If the computer you are using has the icon, please double-click the “Assistive Technology Loader” icon.
-
You will be presented with a screen explaining the login process and providing information about the AT Loader. The AT Loader will guide you through the process of logging in and selecting your software. Any software currently installed on the computer at the time of the installation, or after every 30 days, will be updated on the radio button list. To update this list, you will need to access the menu items, which are, at the time of this revision of this guide, currently inaccessible. You will be required to login with your O-Key e-mail address and password. This information can be found on your O-Key page. If you have trouble finding this information, please visit http://okey.okstate.edu or contact the IT Helpdesk.
-
You can Tab through each field to get to O-Key Email Address, O-Key Password, and the software selection area. When you are done inputting this information, you can tab to the “Start” button, which will log you in and automatically start your software. This may take a few moments
-
When you are done using your software, return to the AT Loader, exit the AT software you were using, and click either “Logout” or “Exit” to properly ensure that you are logged out of the computer and to prevent a malicious user from accessing your settings after you. For best results, restart the computer.
Using WYNN
When WYNN first starts up, you’ll be presented with a login box. Just select your username from the drop-down box and click “OK”, and you’ll be logged in with your custom settings. If you do not have a login in the box, enter your e-mail address or your short O-Key username, and click OK. A profile will be created for you.
Toolbars
WYNN is operated using the rotating or rolling tool-bars located at the top of the screen. Each tool bar button is labeled and has an accompanying tool tip. If a button is grayed, it is not currently available. Each toolbar can be accessed using the “Next” button, and each color of toolbar corresponds to different functions of the program. Always keep in mind, if you get a setting incorrect, just keep clicking on the toolbar button that you hit and it will bring you back around to the beginning. The best example of this is the Font Size button. If you get the Font Size too high, just keep clicking and the Font Size will eventually roll back over to the smallest setting, and from there you can increase it again.
There are four toolbars, each with different functions:
-
Blue Toolbar: File Tools, such as Open, Close, Save, and Print
-
Green Toolbar: Reading Tools, including font size, masking, voice rate, and colors
-
Purple Toolbar: Study Tools, such as the dictionary, syllable tool, bookmarks, and notes.
-
Yellow Toolbar: Writing Tools, such as Cutting and Pasting, Spell-check, Homophone finder, and Word Prediction
On each toolbar, there are a few common items:
-
Read: Starts the reading process on the current document. WYNN will begin reading aloud and spotlighting each word as it moves through the document.
-
Read Only: Toggle this button to switch between Read Only and Write. Write mode lets you edit the document, while Read Only will let the document be read with voice and spotlighting.Exact View: If the document has been scanned in (and it’s still in the proper file format), you can switch to “Exact View” to view the page as the scanner saw it. This is beneficial if there are tables, graphics, or charts on the page that weren’t recognized as text properly.
-
Other Docs: If you have any other documents open in WYNN, click this button to switch between them.
Changing Voice Settings
The best way to customize your voice settings is to use the options on the Green Toolbar, but if you need more granular, exact control of the speech settings, click on the “Settings” menu item, and go down to “Speech Settings”. This will allow you to set the voice, volume, rate, and pitch for the reading and menu voices. Additionally, if the computer you’re using has the AT&T Natural Voices installed, you may be able to listen with these voices, which tend to be more human-like and provide a higher quality of speech. If you’d like to change to the AT&T Natural Voices, then select the appropriate item from the “Synthesizer” drop-down box.
Finding Help & More Information
It is recommended that any new user of JAWS utilize the Tutorial section, and also listen to the JAWS Basic Training, available in audio format on Freedom Scientific’s website at: http://www.freedomscientific.com/Training/JAWS_training_hq.asp
Online Help
Online help for WYNN is very beneficial, and may provide all the information you need. The online help section is best accessed by selecting the Help menu item from the top of the window, and going to “WYNN Help…” You can also press the F1 key at any time to access this screen.
