About WYNN
WYNN, created by Freedom Scientific Learning Systems Group, is a learning support tool, which combines both reading and writing tools into one system to provide an adaptive environment for individuals with cognitive or learning disabilities. The software, in the most basic of senses, will scan in documents, convert them to electronic text, and read them aloud, however, the true usefulness of this tools lies in the ability to manipulate the text and utilize it in multiple different ways. The software is designed to be highly customizable to meet a wide range of needs in supporting learning or reading disabilities, such as Dyslexia, ADD/ADHD, Irlen's Syndrome/Scotopic Sensitivity, etc. To this end, the software includes tools that facilitate one's reading skills, such as an in-depth dictionary, masking, and notetaking tools
In addition, the software contains multiple utilities that facilitiate the expansion of writing skills, including word prediction tools, homophone detection, spell-check, and others all wrapped up into a fully featured word processor. Finally, the software includes a built-in web browser and email system that offers many of the same masking and reading tools available in the document system.
Training
WYNN is designed to be intuitive, operating with what are usually referred to as color-coded "rolling" toolbars. All of the major feature selections in WYNN are accessible via these toolbars, and when any change to the format of the text is made, the user can continue selecting that toolbar button to return them to their previous setting. Clicking on the "Next" button on the toolbar will take them through the color coded toolbars, and eventually back around to the start.
Due to the fact that the software is so highly configurable, it is recommended that any student needing a specific accommodation please contact our office for assistance in getting the software configured and set for the exact requirements necessary to provide the best learning experience. Additionally, we offer in-house training of the software, and due to the ease of use, we recommend this short walk-through to indoctrinate anyone interested in using the software.
